DPhil Econ (Sussex), MA (Cambridge), BA (Hons) (Cambridge)

He was the 14^th Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (retd. 2019). Dr. Coomaraswamy obtained both his BA (Hons) and MA in Economics at the University of Cambridge, UK, and his DPhil in Economics at the University of Sussex. He began his career as an economist with the Central Bank of Sri Lanka in 1973, serving the Central Bank for fifteen years, working in the Departments of Economic Research, Statistics and, Bank Supervision. He then served the Commonwealth Secretariat in London, 1990–2008, as a senior economist, including as Head ofthe Economic Affairs Division and, Interim Director of the Commonwealth Secretariat’s Social Transformation Programme Division.  He was economic adviser to Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe in 2001-2. He has served on the University of Sri Jayawardenapura’s Board of Study (Public Administration). He was a member of the Monetary Policy Consultative Committee of CBSL from 2013 – 2015.
